This spicy gluten-free goulash isn't fancy but is an extremely easy comfort food for your next cheat day with tender gluten-free noodles, stewed tomatoes, and garlic and spiced hamburger.
If you happened across my Instagram last night, you saw that I was making one of my all-time comfort foods, this spicy gluten-free goulash. I never even thought about sharing this recipe, like ever.
Like ever ever! Because, let's face it..... it's not "Pinterest pretty". It's not an intricate meal, or something far out there and different. It's just a plain-jane kind of meal.
It just happens to be one of my family and I's favorites.
After sharing on social media I got a lot of questions about the recipe so I started thinking, maybe I really should share my ugly dish. Who cares???
If it's comfort food, I could spoon it in my mouth in complete darkness for all I care. If it tastes good, share it!
So instead of my scheduled recipe post, I am squeezing in my spicy goulash instead (because of all the comfort food feels, and because it's friday, and because I want to!).
This spicy gluten-free goulash is incredibly easy to put together (I put it together while also feeding the dogs, starting the laundry, and chasing one of our horses out of the apple tree - multi-task much?!?) with minimal ingredients.
I cook up gluten-free noodles at the same time I cook up hamburger, adding spices along the way, and combine both with some juicy stewed tomatoes into a skillet and meld together until perfectly tender and saucy.

How to make Spicy Goulash?
There are a few very easy steps involved:
- Cook your pasta according to package instructions.
- At the same time you are cooking your noodles, cook up your hamburger in a large skillet until fully cooked. Drain the fat and discard.
- Once both are cooked, combine the noodles into the large skillet with the beef. Add in the tomatoes, chopped onion, black pepper, crushed red pepper, and garlic powder.
- Allow to simmer on med-low, stirring occasionally, until the liquids start to evaporate.
- Remove from heat and enjoy!
A couple of notes on the spicy goulash:
- Want a little more spice? Add in a little diced jalapeno (oh yum!) or a little more crushed red pepper. Don't throw in hot sauce as it will mess with the sauce's flavors.
- If you don't need the dish to be gluten-free, the dish is awesome with regular noodles too! And speaking of noodles, this dish is fun with all types of noodles, so use whatever fun noodle you can find.
- You can use ground turkey or chicken to replace the hamburger but because of their lower fat content, you may need to add in a little bit of chicken or vegetable broth (likely around ¼ cup) while simmering all the ingredients together.
- If you don't have stewed tomatoes, diced tomatoes will work too. Of course, if you have fresh tomatoes, use 'em! If you need to buy cans like me, do it! It'll taste great either way.
