Ingredients for gluten free Garlic Bread (2 servings):
- ¾ cup of Gluten-free All-Purpose Flour (Maida)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ tablespoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon yeast
- 1 tablespoon butter
- ¼ cup warm milk
- 1 egg
- 2-3 big cloves of garlic (minced/grated)
- Oregano
Ingredients for Cheesy Dip (2 servings):
- 2 grated (Alternatively: 4-5 cheese slices, cut into small pieces) cheese cubes :
- 2-3 tablespoon milk
Directions
Step 1: In a bowl or large glass, add the sugar, warm milk and yeast and mix gently until smooth. Let it sit in a warm place for 10 to 15 minutes for the yeast to work.
Step 2: Once the yeast has risen, mix the gluten free all purpose flour and salt in another bowl, then add the yeast mixture, mix all the ingredients well to have a uniform dough in which you will be able to add the finely chopped fresh garlic. Mix again. Finally, add the egg and gently mix for about 3 minutes to homogenize the dough.
Step 3: In a non-stick pan or on a baking sheet, place your bread dough. The dough should be sticky, so in order to roll it out, dip your fingers in a bowl of water and gently roll the dough into a round shape. Be careful not to roll it out too thinly, it should be about ¼ inch thick.
Step 4: With a knife or pizza cutter, cut the bread into two portions (wet or oil the knife to prevent the dough from sticking to the blade) and space the two parts gently to obtain two loaves at the end of cooking. Then, with the same knife, draw parallel grooves along the bread, being careful not to cut through the dough completely.
Sprinkle with oregano (or herbs that you love) and cover the loaves before letting them rise in a warm place in the house for about 40min.
Step 5: In an oven previously preheated to 350°F, place the breads and let them bake for about 20 minutes, until they are golden brown.
Step 6: Take the breads out of the oven and enjoy them while they are warm 🙂
Cheesy Dip
While the breads are rising, we will prepare a gourmet cheese sauce in which we can dip them.
In a non-stick pan, add the milk and heat it over low heat. Bring the milk to a boil and add the cheese. Mix gently and when the cheese starts to melt in the milk, turn off the heat.
Mix until you obtain a homogeneous sauce and place it in a container. Leave at room temperature until the breads finish rising and then cook.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best herbs for garlic bread?
In this homemade garlic bread, we use oregano because its flavor goes very well with the garlic.
However, it is possible to use other herbs such as parsley, which will have a relatively neutral tone with the garlic flavors, or basil. Basil goes with everything, right?
What is gluten free multipurpose/all purpose flour?
Gluten free all purpose flour allows you to replace wheat flour in the same proportions as your usual recipes.
It is a substitute for all your recipes for breads, pizzas, cakes, cookies, and all kinds of dough. The result will be as good as with a classic wheat flour containing gluten!
This gluten free flour has a base other than wheat, it can be a rice flour, corn flour, buckwheat flour, quinoa flour, chestnut flour, millet flour, amaranth flour, coconut flour, soy flour, chickpea flour, lentil flour, hemp flour...
The possibilities are endless!
Are there any ingredient variations?
As mentioned above, the herbs used can change, fresh parsley, basil ...
We advise you to always use fresh garlic to take advantage of all its flavors, however if you do not have the time or the ingredients, it is possible to use dry garlic or garlic powder.
As for the yeast, we use dry yeast but instant yeast can be used in the same proportions.
Finally, those with a sweet tooth might be interested in adding some good cheese to this delicious homemade gluten free garlic bread. An unprocessed cheese (cheese does not contain gluten, but care must be taken with possible cross-contamination from industrial processes) such as a good parmesan or nice mozzarella will sublimate this recipe.
Et voila! You have the perfect side dish 🙂
