This spicy sage slow cooker turkey combines sage and garlic deliciously with a little heat {only if you want it!} in a slow cooker for the most juicy and moist turkey you will ever eat! Five minutes of prep work gives you a Thanksgiving Day main course that is falling-off-the-bone {literally!}!
Does this turkey situation sound too good to be true? Well, it's not! The morning of "turkey day", I prep my turkey by washing the turkey {and taking out those "baggies" that are hiding!}, line my crockpot, rub a little butter on the bird, and sprinkle a few spices on top.
Then I let it sit and cook in the slow cooker for 8 hours on low {if I have the opportunity, I will drizzle some of the liquids that are in the bottom of the slow cooker onto the top of the turkey with a baster a few times, but it's not necessary}.
If I want some mashed potatoes to go with my turkey {um...yes! Always yes!} I will cut up a few potatoes into slices and add them to the bottom of the slow cooker and cook on low for another 2 hours {with the turkey hanging out on top of the taters}.
After those two last hours, I will mash up those potato slices and serve up the turkey. I don't even use a knife to cut the turkey up with. It just falls apart on it's own.
Spicy Sage Slow Cooker Turkey
Ingredients
- 1 pounds frozen GF turkey breast {5-7 }, thawed, cleaned, and baggies taken out
- ½ cup GF chicken broth
- 4 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 4-6 leaves chopped sage
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon chopped dried onion
Instructions
- Place your turkey in the bottom of the slow cooker {line your slow cooker with a crock pot liner for even easier clean up and turkey day!}.
- Rub your turkey with the butter on all sides.
- Drizzle the chicken broth over the turkey as well as sprinkle the spices liberally on top of the bird.
- Cook on low for 8-10 hours, drizzling some of the liquids on the bottom of the slow cooker, over the turkey a few times throughout the cooking process with a baster.
- Remove from the slow cooker and let sit 5-10 minutes before cutting and serving.
Why the slow cooker? Well, for me, it's very hard to mess up. The meal in the slow cooker is very transferable {in case you are bringing food over to your auntie's house!} and the main reason here in the south for me is that there is no oven on for hours to warm your house up to 'hot as heck' with all those extra hungry guests warming things up in the house too.
