These little bundles of joy were made last weekend and I just happened to snap a picture of them before they were devoured and posted it to my instagram story.
There was a lot of interest in the recipe so I decided it would just be easier to make a quick post about these old fashion baked glazed donuts than trying to respond to everyone with the recipe over on Instagram.
So that's the reason why the one and only photo isn't great quality and that's why there aren't any styled pictures.
It's just a bunch of hot and ready old fashion baked glazed donuts on my kitchen island straight out of the oven. This is real life people.
Nothin' fancy!
Old Fashioned Doughnuts:
The old fashioned way.... of making doughnuts?
Donut Ingredient List:
- white rice flour
- tapioca starch
- coconut sugar
- coconut flour
- flaxseed meal
- xanthan gum
- cream of tartar
- baking powder
- baking soda
- table salt
- almond milk
- unsalted butter, melted at room temperature
- vanilla extract
- 2 eggs, egg whites separated
- confectioners sugar
- almond milk
Directions for the Donuts:
- Preheat your oven to 350*F and spray a metal donut pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix the rice flour, tapioca starch, coconut sugar, coconut flour, flaxseed meal, xanthan gum, cream of tartar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
- Pour the butter, and then the vanilla, egg yolks, and 1 cup milk into the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Beat the egg whites in a separate small bowl for about 1 minute and then add it to the mixture and stir until combined.
- Fill each donut well about ½ full (see donut tips below for this step!) and bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes or until the outsides edges are turning a nice golden brown and the centers are fluffy and cooked.
- While the donuts are baking, make the icing by combining the confectioners sugar with the 4 tablespoons of milk in a small bowl and mix well. Set aside.
- Remove the donuts from the oven and allow to cool completely. Drizzle with the homemade icing and enjoy!
Here's a few tips on these old fashion baked glazed donuts:
- If you don't have white rice flour, brown rice flour is a great substitute. Your donuts will just be a little bit darker in color.
- I like to place my old fashion baked glazed donut batter into a large ziploc baggie with a corner cut out. It is easier to squeeze out the correct amount of batter into each donut pan well without getting the batter and drippings everywhere.
- If you like your icing thicker, use 3 tablespoons milk in the icing. If you like your icing a little more runny, use 5 tablespoons milk with the confectioners sugar.
How To Store and Reheat Leftover Doughnuts:
Store your leftover room-temperature doughnuts in an airtight container or plastic food-safe storage bag at room temperature for up to 4-5 days.
To reheat these doughnuts, simply place a doughnut on a microwave-safe plate or paper towel and place it in the microwave. Microwave on high power for 15-30 seconds, or until your level of warm-donut is achieved!
